Intro

A burgeoning film production company based in Queensland, Australia wanted me to redesign their logo. The success of a few comedic, animated shorts motivated them to find a designer to help express their values more effectively with their branding.

Ludo’s Unique Qualities

Based on the information Ludo shared with me about their company and the body of work they’ve produced, I tried to boil down the studio to its core values in order to frame my design process.

Process & Development

Ludo places a high value on the development phase – using audience and broadcaster insights to really push ideas to success.

Innovative

Ludo doesn’t settle for lackluster ideas. It’s constantly striving to produce truly original, quality content.

Open Collaboration

At Ludo, projects are a product of collaboration, both internally (amongst directors, producers, writers, and so on) and externally (broadcasters and other stakeholders).

Planning

To plan the logo I created a mood-board based on the information they shared with me and my own research. I watched their content, reviewed competitors, and read articles about them online. I focused on branding that suggested the artistic process and was quirky while still being professional.

Sketches

While I sketched I thought about film, projection, gatherings, drafting, layering, and movement to suggest playfulness.

Best Sketches

The sketches that best represented the brand dealt with paper folding, simple geometry suggesting process and various media, layering, and a film spool unfurling.

Final Result

The logo we liked the most features a quirky, high-contrast color palette, that when combined with the slick curves suggests innovation and creative collaboration. The winding letters end in a spool, evocative of film.
