Indaba Music was an online community of over one million musicians looking for creative ways to showcase their talents. My challenge was to create artwork for both the website and affiliated social media platforms that got our community excited about our contests. Interactions like live listening sessions made Indaba a valuable place for members to frequent.

Contests
Indaba’s competitions included remix contests, original song contests, sync licensing searches, talent searches, sample library challenges, and many genre-specific contests. Genres included anything from Trap to Classical music.
Contests were sponsored by leading brands or institutions in the music industry.

Variety
Here are two vastly different artworks for contests that I created. One is for an action film music licensing search and the other is a remix contest for rapper Big Boi.
As you can see some contests were best suited for a more concept driven approach whereas others needed to represent the artist’s brand.
Designing In Context
I needed to adapt the images so that they maintained legibility and visual hierarchy in different asset sizes and resolutions.
To do this I created a template with guidelines that included overlays of the website UI so I could see how it would look in context.
